Rock Lobster

At Greedy Hen we've been experimenting with camouflage.

Step one: Tear up some rocks, pyramids, mountains, the moon, crystals, earth, statues, glass, icebergs, and glaciers.

Step two:
Blot wintery toned watercolour pencils into textured paper. Tear everything into pieces, destroy everything.

Step three: Collage together and add Alpine, the hypnotic Melbourne band with eerie melodic pop harmonies.

and may we just add that that's an excellent shirt selection Alpine! good job!

Adventures in the Sunshine State

Last week we ventured to Brisbane to teach a workshop at Queensland's digital culture centre, The Edge.

Our workshop was all about experimental, low-fi, hand-made animation and the Greedy Hen ethos.

The folks at The Edge were incredibly welcoming and awesome.

and we were also stoked to discover that our class was full to the brim with super talented legends.

a paper locust plague

Our favourite interactive wildlife park Wild Life Sydney
(home to some comically sleepy koalas) are opening a new Bugs Garden.

To celebrate the launch of this creepy-crawly addition to the park, they're sending out hand-crafted Greedy Hen paper insects to a select special few.

Our paper Huntsmen Spiders were a little goofy with so many eyes looking in so many different directions.

and cockroaches never looked so friendly!

Each leaf was folded and hand painted using watercolours.

The honey bees featured delicate tracing paper wing details.

Each insect had it's own personality and facial expression,

the grasshoppers in particular looked quite sneaky.

With over 40 individual insects and paper leaves to create, the studio got messy really quickly.

Working on this project gave us a real joyful nostalgic feeling,

bringing back memories of collecting insects in the garden when we were little kids covered in dirt.

fun!

We hope everyone enjoys the new Wild Life Sydney Bug Garden, it looks like it's set to be a cracker!
